Jimi Hendrix was a guitarist, singer, and songwriter of American rock. He won numerous awards for his contribution to rock music, both during his life and after his death at the age of 27 years. With a unique style that combines rock and roll, blues and funk, Jimi Hendrix became one of the most influential musicians in the history of rock and roll with his guitar playing skills are legendary.

Jimi Hendrix was born as Johnny Allen Hendrix on November 27, 1942 at Seattle, Washington. His father was on duty at a US Army camp in Oklahoma when he was born. When he returned home, his father changed his name became James Marshall Hendrix.

Jimi have unstable family life. His family was poor, so he often sent to live with other family members or friends. One of the two brothers defects and raised by the state, with two sisters also flawed and submitted for adoption.

Hendrix's parents divorced in 1952 and her mother died six years later. Around that time, Jimi bought his first guitar and began practicing diligently. His father gave him the first electric guitar the following year.

Jimi Hendrix's first band is The Velvetones followed by The Rocking Kings. After dropping out of high school, he was involved in a legal issue because driving a stolen car. As an alternative to prison, he was allowed to join the US Army.


He registered on May 31, 1961 and came out a year later. In that period Hendrix met bass guitarist, Billy Cox, and continue to establish personal and professional relationships for the rest of his life.

After leaving the Army, Hendrix and Cox moved to Clarksville, Tennessee, and formed a band called The King Casuals and playing throughout the American South for about two years. Experience Hendrix in the South allowed him to develop his personal style, although it is difficult to make a living.

He moved to New York in 1964. While there, he won first prize in an amateur contest at the Apollo Theater and joined the national tour of the Isley Brothers'. Hendrix played as a reserve for Little Richard in 1965, but because they do not match soon broke up.

Along the 1965 and 1966, Hendrix played in several bands before forming his own band, Jimmy James and the Blue Flames. In the same year, he also founded the most important band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, with the help of British producer, Chas Chandler. The band members are beginning Hendrix and British musicians Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell.


Hendrix died of barbiturate poisoning and swallow his own vomit on September 18, 1970, reported after an overdose of sleeping pills. Although it ended tragically at the age of 27 years, Hendrix music continues to influence and inspire many musicians and fans. In 1992, he was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award from The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. An album songs previously unreleased called First Rays of the New Rising Sun, was finally released in 1997.
