Pandit Ravi Shankar was a musician legend of the world, he is a composer, performer and scholar of Indian classical music. Shankar was born April 7, 1920 in Varanasi Uttar Pradesh and died December 11, 2012 in La Jolla, San Diego California, he is one of the iconic artists leading cultural of the 20th century for its achievements and place it as a figure maestro traditional musicians of India which is famous because of his skills playing a musical instrument zither.

He moved to Paris in 1930 and the greater part of his education was obtained at francis. Since the age of 12 he performed together with his brother Uday Shankar as a musician and a dancer in a tour of Europe and America, his first concert in 1939 offered an opportunity for Ravi Shankar to play as a soloist at a music conference in Alahabad.

Pandit Ravi Shankar was a disciple of Allauddin Khan of the founders of Indian classical music school named Maihar gharana, Ravi Shankar was a famous Indian instrumentalist with the work of his musicality that brings the power and charm of classical music traditions of India to the Western world.


Efforts of Pandit Ravi Shankar to introduce classical music traditional Indian cooperating with The Beatles, especially the guitarist George Harrison and of course because of the charisma Shankar himself who made it successfully entered the industry of western music that makes his career lasted for more than six decades, therefore Shankar asked as holder Guinness Book record for the artist who diajang international career with a record of being the longest.


Pandit Ravi Shankar began his career as a composer to write music for ballet and performing arts such famous films as Dharti Ke Lal and Neecha Nagar. He also composed the song Sare Jahan Se Accha which is one of the most famous songs in India.

In 1949 Pandit Ravi Shankar became director of music on the radio "All India" Delhi city and set up an orchestra named vadya Vrinda Chamber Orchestra. 1950 to 1955 is the golden period of activity composer, especially in internationally recognized film studio, Calcutta, the days of his prime in this music career he scored The Ray Triology.

On his outstanding contribution to music and its role in the field of culture, Pandit Ravi Shankar became the first to receive one of five President's award in 1962, the saving grace India represents the highest honor in the artwork.

Mid-1960s, kepiawaianya in playing sitar music and has been known as a traditional Indian musicians George Harrison attracted a guitarist of the band The Beatles to study him for the sake of studying Hindustani music.

Ravi Shankar has died at the age of 92 years after undergoing heart surgery, the maestro of India that put a sitar in the musical map. George Harrison called him "the godfather of world music" soul vision brings sound into the human consciousness. He is an artist and music composer substantial bridging two different worlds between India and the West.
